Happy Monday!! This one is a little sweeter for me since I’M ENGAGED NOW!!!!!
So I’m sure you want the story, but let me give you a little background first. Will and I have been dating about 3 years (it will be exactly 3 years this Saturday). We met in my college town, which is his hometown. We actually met at the bar (classy) and I was 20 and he was 23. In my college town, they let you in the bar at 19, but obviously you still can’t drink until you’re 21. I had just got off work, and we were the only two sober ones out of the people we were hanging out with.
I ended up finding out pretty fast that he was in the military, and was only home on leave for about a week and half. So we hung out every night for that week and a half, and weren’t really sure what was going to happen. Then we just kept talking on the phone, and eventually I went to Georgia to visit him, and he came home more often to see me.
So to wrap this little part up, he decided not to re-up in the military for active duty, and moved home about a year and a half ago, after we’d endured a year and a half of a long distance relationship. About six months ago, we moved in together and everything has been going great, so marriage is the next logical step.
I’ll be honest and let you guys know that I wasn’t completely surprised. A couple months ago, I was looking at the pictures on his phone, and once he noticed, he ripped the phone out of my hand. I suspected it had something to do with a ring. In fact, I was expecting the proposal to happen two other times…and it didn’t. Ha! Kind of embarrassing but honestly I had fun trying to anticipate when/how it would happen.
I was pretty sure it was happening this weekend when Will suggested we go to a super fancy restaurant this weekend for absolutely “no reason.” And then he insisted it was just the two of us. So naturally, I got my nails done Saturday while he was working, just in case! I still had no idea how it would happen, before the dinner, at dinner, or after???
In case you’re thinking I ruined it for myself, I really don’t think I did. And hey, it’s my experience to decide if it was ruined or not, right? I actually had a lot of fun brainstorming with my mom and sister and anyone who would listen about how it might happen. Ok, so how it happened was…….
So I had been dilly dallying around before dinner, and Will kept telling me I needed to hurry up so we weren’t late for our reservation. Eventually, I was finally putting on my “mom socks” and laughing about it and probably taking too long. (I don’t know why I think this is relevant to the story, I guess because it’s what I was thinking about right before it happened.) He was just rolling his eyes at me. So then I was like, “Okay okay, I’m almost ready, just let me go put on my boots.”
As I was heading into the other room, he grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him and said something like (it’s all a blur now), “You’re not quite ready yet.” Then he pulled the ring out of his back pocket, and was in a little jewelry box with a light, how sweet is that? So it was all lit up and sparkly. Then since we were in our bedroom, he sat me down on the bed, got on one knee and said, “Kala DeAnn Roberts, please marry me.”
And then I said yes and could I put on my ring now? Ha! And I didn’t even almost cry, I was laughing the whole time. It was great!
My ring is perfect, I love it! He said he was looking for one with a vintage feel, and I definitely think he got it right! It is so sparkly, especially in the light, and I can’t stop staring at it!
So anyways, I guess that’s the story! I think we’re going to have a pretty short engagement, because I am not the type of person who wants to obsess and stress over a wedding for forever. We even looked at a venue today, so I guess you can be expecting some wedding posts from me in the near future!
Needless to say, it was a pretty great weekend, and I had a ton of fun showing off my bling! Thank you so much to everyone who congratulated us on Facebook or via text or in person! We appreciate all the support and look forward to celebrating with everyone. :)

Okay, so maybe YOU didn’t cry, but I certainly did! HA! What a sweet engagement! Congratulations!!! :) Now we can start the wedding planning process together. Except, I’m pretty sure you’re WAY ahead of me! We haven’t picked a date or really talked about anything wedding related! I’ve been too busy staring at my ring! ;)
Kala says
Well I’d already been thinking about it for a few months before it was official and decided I wanted to have a wedding this coming summer, and not the next one. So with the time crunch, I had to make some decisions quick! But yes, if you need to talk to anyone (who is equally as inexperienced as you) about wedding stuff, I’m your gal! :)

LOVE it!!! You’ll have it all figured out in time for me to pick your brain about all of the planning and what not! I honestly don’t even know where to start… the whole process kinda makes me sick! I’m totally cool with just eloping, but Cory said no way! Bummer!

I’m already started and it’s still kind of making me sick. Just when I think I’ve made some serious progress, someone else asks me about details I hadn’t even considered. Just you wait!!!
