Graham Russell: 5 Months

We have finally reached the age where unexplained fussiness has for the most part disappeared and Graham is so much fun now! (Notice I said “unexplained”, not all of course!) I feel like we really know him now and what he likes and doesn’t like and his personality is starting to show more. He is the perfect amount of squishy for lots of hugs and I’m having so much fun being his momma.

Milestones: Started solids, crib sleeping, started talking again, got much more comfortable on tummy time, can take paci out of mouth and put it back in

Weight: I keep forgetting to take him to the bf support groups to weigh in, but I’m guessing he is somewhere around 16 pounds. He’s got chunky little leg rolls that we love, but he isn’t a huge baby by any means!

Eating: We switched to formula this month and it’s caused all sorts of guilt and sort of regret on my part, but at the same time I know that’s what’s best for us. So now I’m just hoping for better luck nursing with the next baby some day. He’s had some constipation with the switch so we are still trying to find the best brand for us, we have some organic stuff on the way to try, so we’ll see how that goes! Also this month we’ve started solids. In month 5 he tried sweet potatoes, apples and prunes and he caught on pretty quickly. Despite his small size, this kid loves to eat!

Sleeping: Graham is officially sleeping in his crib, and sometimes sleeps from 8pm to 4:30-6:00am. Other nights he’s up more, but mostly I’m just putting the paci back in his mouth. I have a love hate relationship with that thing. Usually in the early am I bring him to our room so I don’t have to get up anymore. But it sure is nice going to bed later than him while he’s in his own room so we don’t have to tiptoe around the room. He was becoming a light sleeper so even flushing the toilet in our bathroom after he was asleep sometimes woke him up. Glad to have him in his own room!

Mood: So much more fun! I love every new thing he learns, it seems it puts him in a better and better mood. I love the smiles and giggles and he is just so much fun now! I am really excited for him to become mobile in the coming months and be even more fun. Every day being a mom gets better and better, and so far I am not missing the newborn stage!

Clothes: We just moved up to 6-9 mo pants, the 3-6 mo were getting to short. And our baby is pretty short, I can’t imagine how fast you moms with long babies go through pants! He can still fit into either 3-6 mo or 6-9 mo shirts. :)

Likes: Eating, TV (I’m not proud of this one), being the center of attention, meeting new people, being flown through the air

Dislikes: Having his nose suctioned, getting dressed, sleep time

I am: finally feeling like things are getting easier. I can get stuff done with him around (but don’t tell Will that because he’s still my best excuse) and he can entertain himself on the floor without needing to be held all the time. I feel like this stage is what you expect when you think about having a baby – the smiles, the cuddles, all the good things!

Will is: Graham’s buddy these days. They do weird things like corn on the cob were Will pretends to munch on Graham’s stomach and Graham greets Will with a big ol’ smile when he comes home and watches his daddy alot.

I’m excited to see if 6 months brings rolling around to get places, maybe getting closer to crawling, and probably sitting up on his own!
